<image:title>Insights - Real Life Lessons from IRONMAN World Championship - I know I cannot outperform my self-esteem, my beliefs, my self-worth, and my behaviors. Chills travel through my body as I type these words. I feel the power and agency I have over my entire existence. Damn, it’s vulnerable to know how much possibility I carry inside of me. I know how much time, energy, and intention I have spent getting to know my fears. Getting to know the parts of myself I don’t like.</image:title>
<image:caption>The thoughts that keep me stuck. The emotions that drive me to self-sabotage, the things I hope to create with my fleeting slice of time on this planet. The times I hide and don’t feel lovable.</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - Real Life Lessons from IRONMAN World Championship - Notice all of these behaviors require expectations of others to exist. Meaning I wouldn’t behave this way if I lived in a vacuum and not in relationship to others. All of this begs the question… why, Corrie, do you choose something so incredibly physically and emotionally demanding to learn this? I answer with the latest neuroscience: our body must learn it is safe to do hard things. Not just our mind.</image:title>

<image:caption>The profound opportunity is hidden in the process and the intention I set to get to the start line. The invisible and mostly unconscious, internal systems my brain and nervous system use to create reality, and ultimately my life i.e., beliefs, habits, coping mechanisms, emotions, relationships, etc.</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - What's the difference between coaching, consulting, and therapy? - How coaches help you cultivate your future Coaches are really thinking about the ways in which you want to cultivate and create a life, but also not forgetting that you're just a bunch of patterns bundled up in a brain, and those patterns are ultimately there to keep you safe.</image:title>
<image:caption>So let's both know your shaping and also be creating the future that you want and not get stuck in the past.</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - What's the difference between coaching, consulting, and therapy? - I often hear the question: what's the difference between coaching, consulting, and therapy? Coffee. Coffee. Coaches drink the best coffee.</image:title>
<image:caption>With caffeinated beverages in mind and all jokes aside, it is very common to be slightly unclear on how coaches, consultants, and therapists vary in process and philosophy. The way I like to talk about these three roles is through the lens of learning how to ride a bicycle.</image:caption>
    </image:image>

<image:title>Insights - What's the difference between coaching, consulting, and therapy? - A therapist’s lens A therapist, on the other hand, is considering all the ways you've been shaped or impacted by learning how to ride a bicycle in your early years. They're looking backwards mostly and trying to understand the stories, the experiences, and the ways in which you are riding a bicycle now have been impacted by your parents, your relationships, your trauma, and so forth.</image:title>
<image:caption>Oftentimes, they're providing space to work backwards to understand what is, based on what has been. This approach can invite reflection of your past experiences.</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - What's the difference between coaching, consulting, and therapy? - The reason science says this is so effective is because we need someone to provide unique and alternative perspectives. We can't see our own blind spots.</image:title>
<image:caption>We can't see where we get in our own way. And we also need education and intellectual stimulation enough to inspire us or to see an alternative path.</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - 6 Overlooked Self-Leadership Lessons from Ironman Training - Lesson 03: Pick strategic training partnerships. I think of these as my “Board of Training Advisors” What does that mean? Sometimes we need comfort and empathy as we grow. And sometimes we need people to challenge us. Learn to know what you need along the way and ask for it.</image:title>
<image:caption>Balancing comfort and challenge also means finding diverse training partners. Some partners who match your pace/speed/skill AND other folks who are faster/stronger/more technical than you. Scary I know.</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - 6 Overlooked Self-Leadership Lessons from Ironman Training - Lesson 06: You can tolerate emotional discomfort and you are well resourced to do so. This is your reminder. I'm yelling it for those way in the back. Accept and know that achieving big things requires a process. And the process will bring tremendous amounts of discomfort.</image:title>
<image:caption>Discomfort is not a threat. I'll say that again, discomfort does not mean you're in danger. It tells you where you are flexing and growing new resiliency muscles. Accept it and remind yourself that you have the coping mechanism, resources, and skills to navigate adversity like a boss.</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - 6 Overlooked Self-Leadership Lessons from Ironman Training - Lesson 02: Accept. Empathize. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome. YUP, I learned a slice of this thinking process from my colleague who’s a Marine. (Thanks Marines!) Step two is the most important: Empathize. Every time you stumble.</image:title>
<image:caption>Each time you fall off your training routine you have two options. You can choose shame, or you can choose empathy. Choose empathy or moreover, self-compassion. You must speak to yourself with disciplined kindness.</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - 6 Overlooked Self-Leadership Lessons from Ironman Training - 6 non-obvious ways to grow your capacity to tolerate discomfort and build your resilience:</image:title>
<image:caption>Lesson 01: Become a swimming pool finder extraordinaire. Training consistency is key when it comes to crossing the finish line. The overstimulating nature of our lives make consistency difficult. Open water swimming triggers unsettling fear and anxiety. Making practice even more critical for success.</image:caption>
